Welcome!
Hi, my name is Lindsay and I am a professional violin and viola teacher with over 20 years of teaching experience. I started learning the violin at the age of 6 and went on to gain a BMus (Hons) degree from Birmingham Conservatoire.
I have extensive experience in teaching all ages and abilities in a wide variety of settings, including individual lessons, small/large groups and whole classes. I am also a trained Stringbabies teacher who specialises in teaching the violin to very young children age 3-6 years. This fantastic method uses a combination of shapes, toys, singing and activities to allow children to learn the violin from a younger age...even before they can read!
I have also been conducting and coaching a number of childrens' ensembles for over 20 years, from beginner string groups to County orchestras. For me, these ensembles bring all the skills they learn in their lessons to life and it is such a great way to make music together in a fun environment.
I feel it is very important that a teacher is also a strong player themselves. I have played in orchestras since the age of 6 and, as a professional freelance musician, have played with a number of professional orchestras including the BBC Concert Orchestra and the London Concert Orchestra. Alongside all my teaching, I currently hold the position of Leader of the Sidcup Symphony Orchestra.
Every lesson is bespoke and tailored to the individual student and my biggest pleasure is to watch them grow from complete beginners to accomplished advanced musicians.
